Jumpin' June Jubilee

Saturday, June 6th from 10am-2pm will be our “Jumpin’ June Jubilee” to kick-off the Summer Reading Program, celebrate America’s 250th birthday, and other local celebrations. We plan on having free hot dog meal for children, a petting zoo, May Day pole, Cascading Carlos, Summer Reading Registration, coloring contest, live music with Barren Creek Band, colonial kids’ zone, historical displays, free patriotic bag per family, food vendor, and more. This event will be held at a NEW LOCATION: ON THE GREEN/ 2 N. Laws St. between Union Methodist Church & St. Mary's Episcopal Church.

Special Summer Reading Programs

Join us on Wednesday, June 17th @ 1pm as the popular NJ Snake Man team shares their unique collection of live snakes, lizards, & turtles through a fun and interactive program! Who LOVES dinosaurs?! Professor Livingpebble certainly does, and you will too after this wildly entertaining adventure! Join us for a “quasi-educational, wholly hilarious” journey into the world of paleontology, where kids will dig deep into dino discovery and come face-to-face with a life-sized Velociraptor on Thursday, June 18th 2 6:30pm! This high-energy program is packed with creative audience participation as children unleash their inner T-Rex and become reptiles of all kinds, big or small, carnivore or herbivore. Expect nonstop fun with comic antics, brain-teasing challenges, slapstick comedy, magic, bubble play, amazing sound effects, and delightfully eccentric props. This special event is a joint program hosted by Greenwood Public Library and held at Bridgeville Public Library, bringing our communities together for one unforgettable dino adventure!  Kids are encouraged to come dressed in their best safari gear or dino-dig attire! Slither, stomp, or soar on over and join Professor Livingpebble for a roaring good time—you won’t want to miss this dino-mite experience! This program is designed to give learners an understanding of the world around us, and provide an amazing artistic experience to encourage creativity, culture and community. Join us at Saturday Story Time on Saturday, July 25th from 11am-12pm as the Chesapeake Mermaid shares her love of the bay through an engaging live show with storytelling, music, movement, and more fun. Guests are invited to learn about her wildlife friends, explore bay creature sign language, and take part in an interactive storytime that encourages curiosity and imagination for all ages. The experience also includes “Mermaid Moments,” where families can enjoy personal interactions and take photos to remember the day following our program. Don't miss the chance to take home a copy of our enchanting storybooks and activity books to continue the adventure, and learn more about the Chesapeake Mermaid at ChesapeakeMermaid.com. The Chesapeake Mermaid's performances will begin promptly at 11am. Family Programs

The Bridgeville Library with the Cornerstone Community Center will host a Juneteenth Celebration prayer breakfast “Liberty & Justice for All” on Friday, June 19th starting @ 10am at the library. The keynote speaker will be Bishop W. James Thomas III, Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church. There will be a delicious breakfast, children’s crafts, and vendors.

Children's Programs

Join Ms. Hilary on Tuesdays @ 10am in June  for stories, songs, and rhymes about the Summer Reading Program theme "Unearth a Story". All ages are welcome! "Little Acorns" Music & Movement will be held on Wednesdays @ 9am in the library with Ms. Hilary. Enjoy dancing, swaying, or just observing at this time of movement, rhythm, and fun. Ms. Hilary will model some songs, rhymes, finger plays, and bounces to use at home. Summer Reading Program Kids Craft Days will be held on Wednesdays @ 10am in June, July and August. Join Ms. Hilary to make these crafts: June 3rd-Dino Puppets; June 10 - Build-a-Dino; June 17 - Dino crafts & scratchies; June 24 -Q-tip Dinos. All ages are welcome! Bring your child to the library on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month @11am to read to the L.E.A.P. dogs, Oliver and Penny. Join us with the Delaware Historical Society as they present "Revolutionary Espionage" for the Library League Learners Homeschool Group on Thursday, June 25th @ 2pm. Discover famous spies, including one Delawarean who wreaked havoc on the British. Explore and practice cloak-and-dagger techniques of the Revolutionary Era as students join spy groups, write coded messages, and spy on their adversaries. Registration is required.

Adult Programs

Join us on Tuesday, June 2nd to make seashell art. We have various sizes of wood and canvas to use your creativity with paint, sand, seashells, and twine. Feel free to bring any seashells you have or other embellishments. Registration is required. Space is limited. Join us on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 3-4pm at the library for BINGO! It's FREE to attend with FREE prizes. We will play at least six games of regular bingo for $5 Walmart Gift Cards. Up to two cards per person. Repeat winners will receive alternate prize. Refreshments will be provided by the Bridgeville Library. Join us on Monday, June 1st AND Monday, June 8th @ 2pm for a fun cardio drumming class. PACE Your Life will be hosting "Drums Alive", suitable for all abilities and free to attend at the Bridgeville Library. It will be held on a first come-first served basis for up to 32 people. All equipment needed will be provided and you have an option to stand or sit. Join us on Saturday, June 27th from 11am-1pm as we discuss the book selection “The Most Beautiful Girl in Cuba” by Chanel Cleeton and enjoy a variety of Cuban inspired cuisine. Registration is required. This book is available in regular print and on Libby. A few copies are reserved at the circulation desk.

Tween/Teen Programs

Join Ms. Hilary on Tuesdays (starting June 16th) from 12-3pm for "Teen Tuesdays". This is for ages 10-17. She will have crafts, snacks, and fun activities for you and some friends to enjoy! You can also join us for Library Learners League on Thursday, June 25th @ 2pm with the Delaware Historical Society as they present "Revolutionary Espionage". Discover famous spies, including one Delawarean who wreaked havoc on the British during the American Revolution. Explore and practice cloak-and-dagger techniques of the Revolutionary Era as students join spy groups, write coded messages, and spy on their adversaries. Please call 302-337-7401 ext. 101 to reserve a spot. Join Small Town Gaming for a FREE Play Day on Saturday, July 18th from 10am-2pm. Play all your favorite games on all your favorite consoles and meet new friends. A free lunch is provided.

Chicken BBQ Fundraiser

Tickets are on sale NOW at the library through the month of June! Support the Bridgeville Library at the Chicken BBQ Fundraiser held at the Kiwanis BBQ stand (4533 Seashore Highway, Bridgeville, DE) on Saturday, July 11th and Sunday, July 12th from 9am until sold out. Please consider purchasing tickets in advance at the library or from a Friends member by July 6th. A chicken platter is $12, a half chicken is $10. There will also be a bake sale for purchase with delicious treats prepared by the Friends of the Bridgeville Library. Thank you for your support!

Mobile Health2GO Unit & DSAMH

Do you need a flu shot? Or a Covid-19 Test? Want to get the latest Covid-19 vaccination? Need HIV Testing, counseling and referral? Or just need some important health information? You can get all of these at the Delaware Health and Social Services Health2Go Mobile Health Unit on Tuesday, June 9th from 10am-3pm. No appointment needed. Insurance accepted but not necessary. A representative from the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health will be at the library on Wednesday, June 10th from 10am-1pm. They will have Narcan and wound care kits to distribute, along with information and giveaways. Our mission is to reduce substance abuse and related problem behaviors by strengthening children, families and communities through training and education and services.
