Donated books that are not added to the collection are used in the Library fund-raising book sales. Funds raised through the book sale are used to support library operations and programs. The library may also send our donated books where books are needed in this country and around the world.
Books donated to the library are tax deductible, as allowed by law. The library can give you a tax-deductible form for your records but library staff may not assess a dollar amount to the donation.
The standard of selection that governs purchases of books for the library collection also applies to gifts of books. Gifts will be accepted on the condition that the Library Director may select those appropriate for the collection. Not all quality book donations can be included in the library collection, as we have limited shelving and cannot add duplicate titles to our collection. The library also has limited use for most nonfiction books older than five years. If you feel that your books would enhance our collection; please see the Director to discuss the options available. If items are not accepted for the collection they may be used for the Library book sale or recycled.
We are unable to accept:
- Reader's Digest Condensed
- Encyclopedias
- Textbooks
- Books that may contain mold
- Books that show signs of wear and tear
